Soni 100 years history of Philanthropy : 5% Profits to the Community

In 1911, when Mr. Quraishi Sr. established Asia's first dealership outside Japan, he committed 5% of his profits to the poor in his community. Amin Quraishi continued this tradition but professionalized this giving by focusing on job creation, education and community relief. Mr. Soni and Mr. Jim expanded this further and took Soni philanthropy worldwide by creating SVC (Soni Volunteer Corps) which reacted quickly in times of emergencies as earthquakes, hurricanes and tsunamis to help communities quickly in their times of greatest needs. Still we haven't lost our traditions but have continued building on what Quraishi Sr. and Mr. Amin Quraishi had accomplished. The award of Nobel Peace Prize to Al Gore touched Mr. Jim and Mr. Soni and they decided to commit 2% to environmental causes and projects and 3% to education, job creation, low cost housing, emergency relief, social services to the poorest communities of the world.

our triple bottom lines of environmental, social and fiscal sustainability are grounded in ethicsThis was in line with our commitment to Sustainability and our focus on triple bottom-lines of environmental sustainability, social sustainability and organizational or fiscal sustainability. We are proud to be Thailand's only green dealership and are committed to reducing our Carbon footprint individually and organizationally. Our state of the art headquarters was built from scratch from a sustainability perspective and is green through and through. We only have one planet to share and if we are selfish to just focus on our profits there will be no profits to enjoy if there is no quality of life for us or for our children. Our quest for environmental well-being, communal well-being, work-life balance and organizational growth are grounded in and guided by our strong century old commitment to ethics. Quraishi Senior made honesty and integrity a foundation of our business in 1911 and each generation commits itself to abiding by the highest standards of ethics.

Education has always been a high priority to us because children of the world are our future. If the well-healed individuals and corporations nurture them, they will become an asset but if we let them fend for themselves in a world which can be very cruel they will be a future liability. In addition to providing books and tuition fees to the children of the subsistence laborers and farmers, we also give grants to their family for each children they educate to account for the lost wages that child might bring. We also help build schools in slums to take education to their doorsteps. We work with like minded companies to furnish these schools and pay for monthly school expenses, teachers salaries and students lunches. We also fund mobile libraries in countries where libraries are few and far between.

Strengthening communities and building institutions in poor communities has been our goal for the past two decades. Mr. Amin Quraishi believed that in addition to providing monthly rations to the desperately poor, we must also empower the poor by giving them skills, training and micro-capital to give them lasting employment. When there are even 100 such empowered families in a poor community that community gets going on its own. If we then establish schools, clinics, parks and places of worship the place is gentrified without the arrival of gentry.

In addition we also feel that it is essential that people following different religious traditions come to understand each other much better. This is the only way we can avoid Clash of Civilization. All human beings are basically same and the want the same things in life and the core message of all religions is the same love, selfless service, compassion and building a better future. It is in this spirit that we first brought 100 poor Christian, Buddhist, Hindu, Sikh and Muslim families of our neighborhood together some 15 years ago to celebrate their religious holidays together. The idea went so well that we are still going strong with another set of families and now taking 100 poor families four times a year to celebrate different holidays. The end-result is that at least in our wider neighborhood a Christian knows intimately the significance, foods, rituals and greetings that go with the Muslim Eid, and a Hindu knows what is involved with Christmas and Easter and a Muslims knows how to get down and celebrate Holi and Diwali. Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Christian and Muslims celebrate Holi, Diwali, Easter, Basant, Eid ul-Fitr, Eid ul-Adha, Magha Puja, Vaisakhi Puja, Songkran, Easter and Christmas with each other. We also celebrate Chinese New Year. Check our press releases on recent celebrations of joint Christmas-Eid celebration, Chinese New Year celebration and joint Holi-Easter-Prophet's Birthday celebrations.
